Good Morning,
Russell, is really improving.  He was very talkative, had so much to say yesterday.  Russell was sitting in a wheelchair for about 3 hours on Friday.  He is allowed to remove the cervical collar when he is in bed!  He looks well and  is breathing well.
I Would like to Thank everyone for all the cards & prayers!
Have an awesome week!
Mary

Good Morning,
I am greatly encouraged about Russell's progress .  He will receive OT in the mornings and PT in the afternoons for increasing lengths of time as he regains his strength.  He will probably have the trach for at least another 30 days, so he may remain at BSH longer than originally planned.  He will wear the neck brace for six to nine months, per his neurologist.  PT was to attempt to place him in a standing position while strapped to a table so he can become used to being vertical again.   I have not learned how that came out as yet.
Thank's for all the prayer's and cards, as he really enjoys them.
Respectfully,
Mary

Subject: Russell Update Feb 8th

Russell had a great day Sunday. The ventilator has been removed and He was communicating (TALKING) and in very good spirits.  Thinking about work; asking me if everything was running on time.  Definitely is progressing.  He is having a test today to see how his swallowing is working to try to get him of solid food. Remains in ICU, as soon as he is moved to a room, I will inform everyone!

Please keep the prayers going!

Thank's and have an awesome day!

Russell is progressing everyday, but is still on the ventilator.  His fever has diminished. Hopefully, he will be out of I.C.U.soon.

Thank you for the cards and prayer's. 02/01/10

Russell's injuries are substantial and he is expected to remain in ICU at least one month. He can gesture with his hands and move his legs (yea!).  He was able to read the get well card his sister brought as she held it for him.  He can nod slightly as the neck brace allows.
All friends and colleagues, who wish to send get well cards, please send them to his office.  Flowers are not allowed in ICU. Cards and other cheerful things can't remain in the room, but if I bring a few cards a day he could enjoy them when he is awake enough and the cards will be saved, for him so he can enjoy them again when he is moved to a room.  His family wants to let everyone know how very deeply grateful they are for the love and prayers all have offered for his recovery.
He tires quite easily and needs a lot of quiet time.  He really cannot receive visitors in ICU, but we appreciate that everyone wants to personally wish him well.  Please know we will keep posting updates and announce when he is moved to a room where visitors are allowed.

Russell has Pneumonia along with a fever of 101.  They have placed a cooling blanket underneath him & over him to attempt to bring fever down. 1/21/10

Russell pulled thru surgery last night.  The doctor said it got shaky twice.  They have placed a plate on his neck and a filter in his stomach so that the blood clots do not go above his stomach.  They will now work on his lungs & heart.  Doctor said he would be in ICU for about 3 weeks.  I was able to see him after surgery, he did not open his eyes, but he wiggled his toes.  Russell is definitely a trooper.  Please keep him in your prayers! 1/20/10

While on assisted breathing machine, he is unable to talk, but can signal with his hands. He is still at Baylor-Dallas in ICU, after his Wednesday auto accident. His car was rear ended, breaking 3 bones in his neck, Doctors were surprised that Russell could move his hands and feet. This is a very good sign. .Russell is scheduled for surgery at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday 1/19/10

Russell Owen was in an auto accident sometime Wednesday in Dallas. He is currently in the Dallas Baylor ICU. He apparently has broken some bones in his neck and has broken ribs. While he is restricted some, he is able to move fingers and feet, so that is a good sign. I will keep you informed as I get updates from Dallas ISD.1/15/10
